As part of the US 41 Project, spanning more than 17 miles of highway in Winnebago County, the
Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) will reconstruct the WIS 21 interchange. The
interchange will be reconstructed so that WIS 21 passes over US 41 (US 41 currently passes over
WIS 21). The project includes the construction of roundabouts along WIS 21 at the frontage roads and
the ramp ends and will include bicycle and pedestrian accommodations. The lengthening of on- and offramps at the interchange will improve safety.
Most of the construction at the WIS 21 interchange will take place in 2012, but preparation for
construction will begin this September. Construction this fall will consist of the following:
• US 41 will be temporarily widened and a temporary US 41 bypass will be constructed at WIS 21.
• US 41, WIS 21, and US 41 southbound on- and off-ramps at the WIS 21 interchange will remain open
to traffic.
• Northbound US 41 on- and off-ramps will be closed in late September for 21 calendar days to prepare
for 2012 construction work.
• Following this construction period, all ramps at the WIS 21 interchange will remain open through
the winter until construction starts back up in March 2012.
Project Outreach
The US 41 Project website is a resource for businesses and the public to learn about upcoming meetings
and to sign up to receive updates about the project. Meeting exhibits, handouts, presentations, and other
resources can also be found on the website under the News and Meetings tab.
On July 13, 2011, WisDOT conducted a Business Group meeting and a Public Information Meeting
to provide information regarding construction scheduled for the WIS 21 interchange. Information from
that meeting, including the handout, presentation, access during construction map, and design maps,
can be found on the project website at:
http://www.us41wisconsin.gov/resources/past-publicmeetingresources/2011-resources.
Be on the lookout for future meetings regarding the WIS 21 interchange.
