Treasurer’s Report

  • Paid insurance
  • One dues collection
  • Outstanding pledge – Grand Opera House – due in December
  • Currently 44 paid members

Chamber Report:

  • Charter flights – allow charters to land during EAA Convention
  • Rob was at the shopping center convention – ICS- mad contacts- renewed old contacts
    • Meeting with developer in Milwaukee today ( June 2)
  • Marketing plan for economic development (surrounding area)
  • Events
    • Waterfest begins June 9- every Thursday
    • Live at Lunch begins June 15- every Wednesday

Executive Meeting:

  • Meeting on June 9
  • Looking for speaker ideas
  • Funding requests/ideas

Guest Speaker- John Haese- Winnebago county Highway Department

  •  In public works over 30 years
  • Westside Arterial- west of highway 41
    • 2001 Winnebago County decided to look at possibility of a Westside arterial
    • met with City/County/Townships- suppose to have been an informal meetings- residents in the area come to the meeting with concerns- project put on hold for over 3 years
    • hired a firm to do study -3 years after the initial meeting
    • Boundaries
      • East of highway 41
      • West of County FF
      • North of Highway 21
      • Sough of Highway 26

       

    • City never mapped Clairville- building took place- prevented Clairville from being used as the arterial
    • County Trunk FF- too far wet to be used
    • Goals/Objectives
      • Identify interchange for access to Hwy 21
      • Identify future highway
      • Officially map corridor
      • Additional linkage between Hwy 21 and 26
      • Improve economic development in the area
      • Two new alternatives
      • Trying to avoid issues ( wetlands, power lines, historical buildings) in area south of Hwy 44
      • Development will drive the project
        ·         Without development no need for arterial highway
        ·         Town of Nekimi – has protected area- causes problems for area south of Hwy 44
        ·         Town of Algoma has agreed to mapping to proceed from Hwy 21 to 9th
        ·         City can them map remainder to Hwy 26
      • Funding-
        ·         City /townships/ possible state or federal
        ·         Depending on economy and development- project is 15 or more years away
        ·         Number one goal- identify corridor and protect right away- if not done- costs can double or more once project begins for right away
